The moth don’t know if the flame is real…
My Neonata made with pipecleaners is done.
The praying mantis influence on her is a lot easier to see in this type of medium.
I used Chenille stems, feathers, pompoms and craft glue. You can see the middle part of construction here: http://www.livestream.com/bcs3/video?clipId=pla_9983778c-dbe4-4bd1-a6e1-4e854811d775
Everything I learned about 3d, I learned by doing this as a kid. It was ridiculously fun to make it, too.
Starting designing Neonata again. Her third eye (based on the actual light-detecting third eye of wasps) is usually hidden by her long bangs that sway to one side.
Her forearm hands also flex now. They also have a bladed front section so she can attack by flicking as well as grabbing, hooking, and ripping mortal wounds or holding her prey defenseless.
I fleshed out the design of her ornamental protective caps on them, and the eyes, mandibles, and legs are bit more insect-based now. It’s not described here, but the purpose of the mandibles is to inject the usual spider-based toxins. She’s a predatory luna moth, and actually based on real vampire moths.
I think a lot of my original characters reflect a certain love of biology or art-related things…
I think I’ve only typed it out once before, but she lives on Earth in a deep cave and she’s a seer with a fluid-based companion called Leviathan. She’s not really a good guy either, she’s pretty fucking evil and would fall squarely into the antagonist category of not really respecting other life as being worth her time and she’s spent a couple hundred years in stasis in a cocoon asleep.
Her wider character arc involves trying to get to the moon where a Lunar-based colony is, in a zeerust scifi/fantasy world where technology is just sufficiently-advanced magic and the biodomes on Earth have cracked and are venting all the contained oxygen into space so shit gets pretty bad fast.
It just sounds really lame and trite when I type it all out like that, even though I’ve spent years thinking about the world-building and all the places in it. My original characters are the cornerstone of any future projects I make of my own IP and the worldbuilding is super important to me.
Transferred my sketch over via lightbox using a mechanical pencil. It’s so light that even scanned grayscale and all levels deepened to maximum, it’s an exercise in squinting a bit.
